Garden sheds Sheffield, built in Chesterfield
Garden sheds & workshops
Heavier timber, thicker cladding and a roof with a proper overhang. Built to the size your garden actually is.
There is a reason a flat-pack shed from a shop sags after a couple of winters: thin framing, thin cladding and a roof that sheds water down its own walls. Ours are the garden sheds Sheffield gardens need: made in our Chesterfield workshop from pressure-treated timber, braced properly, and built to whatever size and layout suits your garden — including awkward corners and side returns a standard shed will never fit.

What we make
From a mower store to a full workshop
Apex sheds
The classic pitched roof, with headroom down the middle for shelving and a ladder. Best where the shed stands on its own in the garden and you want space to stand up in it.
Pent sheds
A single sloping roof, so it can sit tight against a house wall or a fence and still throw water the right way. The answer for a narrow side return or under a low boundary.
Workshops
A run of windows for daylight, a bench built in, extra sockets and a wide door to get machinery through. Can be insulated and lined if you are going to be out there in the cold.
Stores & bike sheds
Low-level bin stores, log stores, bike sheds and mower boxes. Small jobs, but they are the ones that tidy a garden up most, and a made-to-measure one actually fits the gap.
Options
The choices that matter
| Roof style | Apex for headroom and looks, pent to sit against a wall or fence. |
| Roof covering | Heavy-duty mineral felt as standard, EPDM rubber if you want a longer-life flat roof. |
| Cladding | Shiplap for a clean finish, loglap for a chunkier look, feather-edge for the traditional one. |
| Doors | Single, double or a wide opening for machinery. Braced and ledged, hung on strong hinges, with a hasp and staple or a lock. |
| Windows | As many as you want and wherever you want them, fixed or opening. Or none at all, which is more secure. |
| Floor | Joisted and boarded on pressure-treated bearers. Heavier joists if you are standing a bike, a mower or machinery on it. |
| Insulation | Optional on sheds, worth it on a workshop you use in winter. |
| Power | Sockets and lighting run in, ready for a qualified electrician to connect. |
Questions people ask
Garden sheds Sheffield, answered
How is this different from a shed from a DIY shop?
Heavier framing, thicker cladding, a braced and ledged door rather than a thin one that drops on its hinges, and a roof overhang that keeps water off the walls. It is also built to your measurements instead of a fixed size, and we deliver it and put it up rather than leaving you a stack of panels and a bag of screws.
Do I need to treat it once it is up?
The timber is pressure-treated, so it is protected against rot from the inside out and will not fail if you never touch it. A coat of a decent exterior treatment every couple of years keeps the colour and adds a water-shedding layer on top, so it is worth doing for looks and longevity rather than because the building depends on it.
Can you fit it down a narrow passage or through a gate?
Usually, yes — the building arrives in sections and goes together in the garden, so the question is whether the biggest panel will pass through. Measure the narrowest point and the gate opening and tell us when you enquire, and we will build the sections to suit. If there is genuinely no access we will say so rather than turn up and find out.
Do you take the old shed away?
We can dismantle and remove an old shed as part of the job. Mention it when you ask for a quote so it is priced in rather than sprung on the day, and empty it out beforehand if you can.
Does a shed need planning permission?
Almost never. A normal garden shed falls comfortably within permitted development: single storey, under 2.5m tall if it is within two metres of a boundary, not in front of the house, and covering, along with any other outbuildings, no more than half the land around the house. Listed buildings, flats and conservation areas are the exceptions. If yours is a borderline case we will mention it, but your local planning department has the final say.
